New Zealand Davis Cup tennis player Dan King-Turner has won his career first Futures singles title with a come from behind three set win over local Tom Rushby at the US$15,000 ($24,425) event at Frinton in England today.
King-Turner, 22, ranked at 628 defeated Rushby 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 after a week of solid play on the grass courts.
Rushby had the upper hand in the first set and was up an early break of serve in his favour in the second set but King-Turner was able to turn around the advantage by breaking the Englishman's serve twice to take the set and then continue his aggressive play for a 6-4 margin in the third set.
King-Turner's ranking should now jump nearly 100 places to around the 510, a new career high. The win is also the first by a New Zealander, aside from Mark Nielsen for five years.
King-Turner will now play several more futures events in the UK over the next month.
