Dan King-Turner battled the wind and a stubborn opponent on the way to reaching the quarter-finals in the latest New Zealand futures tennis tournament in Hamilton yesterday.
Following up from his semifinal effort in Blenheim last week, King-Turner, 21, beat Finnish qualifier Niklas Bucht 6-1, 6-4 in the US$15,000 ($23,353) ASB Men's International.
King-Turner held off Bucht after breaking his serve in the fourth and sixth game of the first set.
Bay of Plenty teenager Austen Childs was hampered by a leg injury in losing his second round match 6-2, 6-0 to more experienced American David Martin. Childs still earned his first ATP senior ranking point with an upset win over top seed Damian Patricarca, of Argentina, on Wednesday.
