The battle between New Zealand's top two tennis players proved to be a fizzer at the US$15,000 men's Futures in Blenheim yesterday, with top seed Mark Nielsen withdrawing from his second round match against Dan King-Turner.
Nielsen pulled out with an abdominal strain at the completion of the first game, which King-Turner won. He has been troubled by niggling injuries of late but still anticipates playing in next week's International Futures in Hamilton.
King-Turner, 21, is now in his third career Futures quarter-final and will take on Australian qualifier Jurek Stasiak, who defeated fifth seed Jorge Aguilar of Chile.
Stasiak is currently unranked but been inside the top 250 in the past.
Other players to make the quarter-finals include second seed Simon Stadler of Germany who faces Lucky Loser David To of Australia.
Third seed Jamie Baker from Britain will face sixth seeded American Scott Lipsky while fourth seed Konstantinos Economidis of Greece and eighth seed Felipe Parada of Chile clash.
