New Zealand No 1 Dan King-Turner came close, but not close enough, in the final of the US$15,000 ($22,800) Futures tennis event at Jersey in the United Kingdom.
King-Turner, 22, lost to fifth seed Jean Claude Scherrer of Switzerland 7-6, 7-5 in the final, which had only one break of serve in the match.
The Kiwi player should see his ranking rise around 80 places to a career-high 450 in the world as a result of the performance.
