KEY POINTS:
Auckland teenager Sacha Jones has won through to the quarterfinals of the US Open tennis junior girls' singles tournament for the second consecutive year.
Jones, 16, beat Ashley Weinhold 6-1 6-3.
Weinhold is regarded as America's next big hope and had already played as a wildcard in the senior tournament.
The pair have similar WTA professional rankings just outside the top-400.
Jones, who also beat Weinhold in the third round at last year's US open juniors, out-hit and out-thought her opponent.
"She is a very good player - last year I won 7-5 in the third," Jones said.
"It shows some of my hard work has paid off.
" I was playing really well and feeling the ball well and tried my hardest on every point ... I didn't let her back into the match."
Jones plays unseeded Georgian left-hander Oksana Kalashnikova for a place in the semifinals on Saturday (NZtime).
"It means a lot to be here playing in the quaterfinals of the US Open again," Jones said.
