Martina Hingis made a successful comeback to professional tennis yesterday with a comfortable win over world No 62 Maria Vento-Kabchi at the Australian women's hardcourt tournament on the Gold Coast.
Hingis defeated Venezuela's Vento-Kabchi 6-2 6-1. It was five-time Grand Slam champion Hingis' first match since a loss to Elena Dementieva in October 2002. Hingis, 25, retired from tennis three years ago because of injuries.
