Timaru has sealed its place as a future Davis Cup tennis venue, according to officials.
The International Tennis Federation executive director of men's tennis and Davis Cup, Bill Babcock, said the professional way in which the tie between New Zealand and Thailand at the weekend, which New Zealand won 4-1, was run has ensured future Davis Cup clashes would be held at the Desmond Unwin Tennis Centre.
"It was fantastic," London-based Babcock said, having come to Timaru after the Australian Open. "It is a true credit to all the effort which has been put in.
"I have been to lots of places and this is as fine a facility as I have seen on any scale in the Davis Cup. It is my first time in Timaru and it won't be my last."
New Zealand Tennis general manager Pat O'Rourke confirmed that Timaru would get future Davis Cup ties.
He said: "I was confident it would go well and it has."
