Former champion Lleyton Hewitt reached the US Open tennis semifinals for the fifth time in six years today with a hard fought five-set win over unseeded Finn Jarkko Nieminen.
As he did in the third round against Taylor Dent, Hewitt recovered from being two sets to one down to beat Nieminen 2-6 6-1 3-6 6-3 6-1 in two hours 26 minutes.
The Australian third seed will next play the winner of the last quarterfinal between world No 1 Roger Federer and 11th seed David Nalbandian.
