Four New Zealand players will compete in the main draw of the US$25,000 Traralgon tennis event in Victoria, Australia. Ellen Barry, 17, of Christchurch, qualified with a couple of straight-set wins and then a three-set victory over Australian Sally Peers in the final round 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to gain her main draw spot.
She will face another Kiwi, wildcard Sacha Jones, of Auckland, guaranteeing a New Zealander into the second round.
Also in on their own rankings are Marina Erakovic and Shona Lee.
Erakovic, the fourth seed, plays Dutch Chayenne Ewijk in the first round. Lee faces Holly Kao from New South Wales.
