In the clash of the New Zealand tennis teenagers Marina Erakovic beat Sacha Jones 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals of the US$25,000 ($32,929) Challenger tournament yesterday at Vigo, Spain.
Erakovic, 19, outplayed Jones, 16, who had made her way through qualifying and still produced a career-best finish that should lift her inside the world top 500.
Second seed Erakovic was to play fourth-seeded Olivia Sanchez of France overnight in the final, her second in a week. In doubles, Erakovic and Briton Melanie South lost their semifinal 3-6, 0-6 to German pair Justine Ozga and Ria Doernemann.
