Marina Erakovic has been bundled out of the first round of the WTA tournament in Stanford by a player ranked 70 places below her.
The 25-year-old, who is presently ranked 79 in the world, went down 6-2 6-1 to Russia's Vera Dushevina this morning (NZT). It was her first singles match since losing in the third round of Wimbledon a month ago and her first first-round exit since losing on clay at Strasbourg in May.
Erakovic has done well at Stanford in the past, making the quarter-finals as a qualifier in 2011, and this tournament marked the start of her buildup for next month's US Open.
