Marina Erakovic advanced to the final round of qualifying at a US$50,000 ($68,400) tennis event in Fukuoka, Japan, yesterday by beating fellow New Zealander Leanne Baker 7-6, 6-0.
The win continues Erakovic's run of good form which has lifted her singles ranking from 417 to 330 in the world to become New Zealand's highest-ranked woman player, passing Shelley Stephens, who is now ranked at 391.
