The chances of this summer's ASB Classic tournament in Auckland drawing a quality field are getting better by the day.
The draw for the Hopman Cup in Perth has been revealed, and the good news is that it features none of the womens tennis players that tournament director Richard Palmer is hoping to bring to New Zealand.
The Hopman Cup runs the same week as the ASB Classic.
One player in particular is Dutch woman, Michaela Krajicek, sister of former Wimbledon champion, Richard Krajicek.
Palmer had expected her to be involved in the Hopman Cup but now she is not, he will reinvestigate the possibility of having her in New Zealand.
Palmer says they are now competing with two other tournaments, which are an exhibition tournament in Hong Kong and a Tour event on the Gold Coast and they have a fair idea of who may go to Hong Kong.
Palmer hopes to announce the draw card for the ASB Classic in the next couple of weeks.
Marion Bartoli of France is the defending champion.
