New Zealander Ilke Gers' run at the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Pattaya Tennis Open in Thailand has come to an end in the doubles semifinals.
Gers, 22, and partner Napaporn Tongsalee of Thailand were beaten in three sets by third seeds Ting Li and Tian Tian Sun of China in the semis of the US$110,000 ($181,758) tournament.
Li and Sun came off a title win in Quebec City last week and had a lot more international experience than the Kiwi/Thai pair.
The result for Gers would still be satisfying as it was her first time in the main draw of a WTA event.
In the singles she lost to top seed Tamarine Tanasugarn in three sets in the first round after winning through qualifying.
Results:
Doubles semi (3) Ting Li /Tian Sun (CHN/CHN) d. Ilke Gers/Napaporn Tongsalee (NZL/THA) 16 62 62.
