Jelena Dokic has officially withdrawn from next week's International tennis tournament in Sydney, making it highly unlikely she will play in the Australian Open.
Dokic pulled out of this week's ASB Classic tournament in Auckland, citing personal reasons.
She said she needed to do more training.
She has not played in Australia since her family left for Yugoslavia three years ago, claiming some local tennis officials and media were against her.
Dokic's place at the adidas International will be taken by Bulgarian Maggie Maleeva, who is ranked 28. Brassey loses opener New Zealand's Rowan Brassey was beaten in the first round of the world indoor singles bowls championship in England yesterday.
Ireland's Neil Booth, the world No 17 from County Antrim, beat the New Zealand qualifier 10-4, 10-2 at the start of the four-day championship at Hopton-on-Sea, Norfolk.
