The top seeds cruised into the third round of the Auckland singles championships last night.
Davis Cup players James Greenhalgh and Alistair Hunt hardly raised a sweat, with Greenhalgh not dropping a game in his demolition of North Harbour junior Michael Venus.
Hunt, 29, who is still restricted as a result of a knee operation a month ago, dropped only four games to beat fellow Aucklander Grant Williams.
He will now take on one of the nation's top juniors, James Pilbro, of Auckland, who beat North Harbour's Nick McGraffney in straight sets.
Greenhalgh, who is still aiming to make the Davis Cup squad in the New Year, will play Tomoaki Sakamoto from the Manawatu.
Third-seed Nick Turner also swept through the draw, beating his Northcote and Chelsea Cup team-mate Kevin Doh without losing a game. Turner faces the predicted great hope of New Zealand tennis, G. D. Jones, in the third round.
Jones, 15, has been playing Caro Bowl tennis for two years and spends more time overseas at junior events than in Auckland.
Waikato's top prospect, Paul Heapy, saw his hopes dashed in the form of Auckland player Andrew Klinkert in three sets, while fourth seed Jacob Olsen (Auckland) beat Bay of Plenty's Gareth Dowdell 6-4, 6-2.
Sixth seed Matt Dewar (Auckland) was forced to three sets by Swedish-born Goran Gerdin and will now play Jono Hurley.
