Wairarapa tennis player Marcus Daniell will gain his first ATP singles ranking after he qualified at the US$15,000 ($20,500) Futures in Nottingham, England and then won his first round match.
Daniell, 18, won three matches in qualifying including beating Britain's Daniel Smethurst 6-4, 7-6(4) to join fellow New Zealander Dan King-Turner in the main draw. Daniell will face top seed Martin Fischer next.
King-Turner beat Britain's Sean Thornley 6-3, 6-3. In the doubles, King-Turner and American Shane Le Porte beat Lloyd Bruce-Brugess and Ben Dunbar 6-3, 6-1 in the first round .
