LONDON - Former world number one Kim Clijsters has decided that Wimbledon will be her last grand slam tournament so she will miss the US Open.
The 23-year-old Belgian, who has struggled with injury, has decided to retire this year and has already pulled out of the French Open.
She said on her website that she was thinking of playing doubles and even mixed doubles at Wimbledon "in order to enjoy my very last grand slam a bit longer".
Clijsters is marrying American basketball player Brian Lynch in July and the US Open, which is the only grand slam she has won, would clash with the honeymoon.
Clijsters said she had resumed training after suffering a sore back.
"My motivation is not all there but I want to get used to clay again," she told the website.
Clijsters is due to resume competition in Warsaw on May 1 but has yet to say where she will play the last tournament of her career.
