It's the final week leading up to the French Open at Roland Garros and New Zealand tennis players are working hard in various tournaments.
Michael Venus ranked 42 in the world in doubles and Croatian partner Mate Pavic (38th) are playing this week in Nice, France where they are the defending title holders. They play Spaniards David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco in the first round.
Artem Sitak ranked 65th and Marcus Daniell 72nd are in Geneva, Switzerland for the ATP tournament in that city. They face Mariusz Frystenberg (Austria) and Mexico's Santiago Gonzalez in their first round clash.
Marina Erakovic is in Roland Garros singles qualifying, which will be held 16-20 May. Women's qualifying is due to start Tuesday evening (NZ time).
As a result of their rankings not being high enough as a team Sitak and Daniell will be combining with other players for the French Open. Sitak will play with American Nicolas Monroe and Daniell with another American, Brian Baker.
Two other Kiwis are in Asia for tournaments. Rubin Statham is playing in the US$50,000 Bangkok Challenger while Finn Tearney is back on court this week after his injury break. Tearney is in the Futures at Wuhan, China.
