MOSCOW (AP) Carla Suarez Navarro advanced to the second round of the Kremlin Cup with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over lucky-loser Vera Dushevina on Tuesday.
The sixth-seeded Spaniard, who is looking for her maiden title, broke the Russian in the 10th game of the first set and went up 3-0 in the second.
"I managed to keep myself concentrated throughout the match and I'm really pleased with that," Suarez Navarro said.
Also, ninth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova struggled with her first serve and lost to Serbian qualifier Vesan Dolonc 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Cibulkova saved five break points in the 10th game of the second set before returning wide at 40-30 down on her next service game.
