New Zealand tennis player Austen Childs has reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open juniors after beating the third seed Sanam Singh of India in three sets in Melbourne today.
Childs, 16, and ranked 49th in the world, won 4-6 6-3 6-3 over the fifth ranked Singh in hot conditions.
Childs is making his debut at the junior open and was obviously thrilled by his win, but does not want it to end at the quarterfinals
"I'm just happy to be in the quarters. I'll just see what I can do tomorrow. I want to be in the semis," he said.
"The first match I was a bit nervous. The next match I played better again. Today I felt I didn't play that well...but I won."
Childs will now face Australian wildcard Nick Lindahl for a place in the semifinals.
