MELBOURNE - Serena Williams says just because she's voluptuous doesn't make her unfit.
The American said she was delighted to have "answered all my critics" with her rout of top seed Maria Sharapova. Williams said reports of her being overweight and out of condition during the Australian Open had been way off the mark.
"It was outrageous. I mean, I was looking in the mirror today and my waist is still 28 inches [71cm] and I think it's all because I have a large bosom and I have a large arse, excuse me," Williams said.
"I have a large arse and it always just looks like I'm bigger than the rest of the girls but I have been the same weight for I don't know how long. If I lost 20 pounds [9kg] I'm still going to have these knockers and I'm still going to have this arse."
Williams insisted she was as fit as ever after spending countless hours sweating in readiness for a big performance.
"I was fit for this tournament from day one," she said. "I ran through a lot of bumps. I had the worst blisters you can imagine."
