Marseille-born Zinedine Zidane is backing his home city's bid to host the next America's Cup.
Real Madrid's French soccer star has joined the city's committee set up to win hosting rights to the 2006/07 America's Cup.
Normally the event is staged by the country holding the cup but with Switzerland winning this year a home is being sought for the next edition.
Marseille is up against Mediterranean ports Barcelona, Palma, Valencia, Naples, Porto Cervo and Elba. Lisbon on the Atlantic is also in the hunt.
