Record entries are in for this week's annual Youth Sail regatta, at Murrays Bay Sailing Club.
The regatta will determine selection for the New Zealand youth team to go to the world championships in Pusan, South Korea, in July.
More than 140 will contest the four-day regatta, across seven classes, for the country's best under-19 sailors.
The winners of each category are eligible for the world event and a team of up to 10 can be picked. A national youth squad to train over the next few months will also be chosen.
Among the leading candidates are Blair McLay, of Torbay, in the Laser, Olivia Powrie of Kohimarama (Laser Radial) and 420 national champions Chris Dawson, of Murrays Bay, and Kohimarama's Scott Illingworth.
Other classes involved are the Mistral boardsailors and Hobie 16s, although the latter has only one entry, Rory and Kelly Goodman of Dunedin, whose form will be assessed in an open regatta at the weekend.
