WARATAHS 42 CHIEFS 23
The Waikato Chiefs have gone down 42-23 to the New South Wales Waratahs at Sydney Football Stadium.
Last night's five tries to two victory means the Australians pick up a valuable bonus point to add to their scorecard.
Early tries to Jono West and Stu Pinkerton, converted by Matt Burke, gave the Waratahs a 17-0 lead after 29 minutes.
But a converted try to the Chiefs' Roger Randle and a David Hill penalty cut the half-time lead to 17-13.
The second-half saw the home side surge ahead 34-16 with tries to Burke and Phil Waugh.
Then a try set up by giant Waikato forward Koula Tukino sent All Black winger Bruce Reihana down the line to make a dent in the deficit, but 34-23 was as close as the Kiwis got.
Burke kicked another penalty and replacement Waratah scrumhalf Sam Payne scored wide out to seal the nineteen-point victory.
