NRL salary cap auditor Ian Schubert has met under-fire Parramatta chairman Roy Spagnolo to discuss real estate investments involving some Eels players and officials in 2002-03.
NRL chief executive David Gallop said the investigation would take more time but the governing body was satisfied with the level of co-operation from the Eels after yesterday's meeting with Spagnolo and the club's acting chief executive, Andrew Hill.
Parramatta had expressed the strong view that it had not breached the salary cap with deals reportedly involving players Luke Burt and Fuifui Moimoi and former players Dean Widders and John Morris.
"Certainly we are happy with the level of co-operation but this will still take a little more time to finalise," Gallop said.
"These things can take some period to finally determine and they are inquiries that are very much part of everyday life for our audit team."
Gallop confirmed the NRL was also talking to the Brisbane club after former Brisbane chairman Don Nissen told a court that mining magnate Ken Talbot gave money to Broncos players and former coach Wayne Bennett.
"Issues raised in court in Brisbane in relation to payments made by businessmen there are also being investigated but so too are the accounts of every club on a regular basis," said Gallop.
"Where significant breaches take place we have a track record of announcing any penalties to all concerned and that policy remains. We are not at that point however, and it is too early to speculate on any outcomes."
