Rotorua's Ngongotaha rugby league club will not be applying for a spot in next year's national rugby league competition.
Player/coach Mark Woods said the club had decided they were in no position to try to extend their two-year licence in the Bartercard Cup.
The team have only had four wins out of 34 games so far, and all of those were during the opening season last year. They are last in the 12-team competition with 10 games to play.
