Sydney Roosters second-rower Craig Fitzgibbon kicked a penalty goal with six minutes remaining to hand his side a 20-18 win over Brisbane in their National Rugby League game at the Sydney Football Stadium last night.
But the win came only after the Roosters resisted a late surge from Brisbane.
Broncos centre Michael De Vere missed a controversial penalty goal with three minutes remaining which would have levelled the scores.
The win gave the Roosters some measure of revenge for last year's grand final loss to the Broncos and pulled them level with Brisbane at the top of the NRL table heading into the weekend.
In Melbourne, the Storm thrashed the Northern Eagles 52-18.
