BRISBANE - Gold Coast trainer Gillian Heinrich is hoping a return to a dry track at Eagle Farm today will boost Audacious Spirit's bid for a Sydney campaign.
Heinrich rates Audacious Spirit one of her team's better sprinters and hopes to chase black-type races in Sydney during the autumn if the colt wins the Fourex Gold Handicap (1200m).
The son of Bel Esprit scored impressively first-up at Eagle Farm in November before wet tracks disrupted his summer campaign. The 3-year-old then had more than a month between runs when fourth to Celtic Dancer on a heavy track over 1200m at the Gold Coast on New Year's Day.
"The heavy track and six weeks between runs was too much for him," Heinrich said yesterday.
"He's a big horse. He weighs 560kg and stands about 16 hands so he probably needed the run." She would have preferred a better barrier than 11 but is still confident of a big run.
