Peter Hollinshead is not expecting a win from off-the-scene With Drawn at Ruakaka tomorrow, but will be disappointed if he does not get some of the money.
With Drawn will be having his first start in 17 months when he lines up in the $15,000 Cullen Sprint, but don't be surprised if he gets into the trifecta.
The classy 5-year-old damaged a tendon racing at Flemington, when trained in Melbourne, in February last year.
A long spell corrected that, but just as he was starting to speed up in his work this year, he struck a tendon in his good front leg, requiring a further spell.
"The second one was nowhere near as bad as the first and I thought at that stage it was better to bring him home, let him roam a big paddock and prepare him for the big money on offer at the Hawkes Bay meetings coming up," said Hollinshead.
With Drawn had good form against the best classes before going to Australia where, despite a virus, he won nearly $80,000.
The start before he was injured he was second in a photo finish in a listed stakes race in which the winner just missed eclipsing Vo Rogue's 2000m track record.
"He was always a big, weak looking horse, even when he was racing in Melbourne, but he's filled right out now," said Hollinshead.
"He's done a lot of work and while it's always difficult to judge when they haven't raced for so long, it wouldn't surprise me to see him right there - class horses always go a good race fresh."
