Ad Alta showed when galloping at Matamata yesterday that she was ready for a bold 4-year-old debut at Ellerslie on Saturday.
Heavy fog kept timing to a minimum.
On a firm all-weather track, Ad Alta strode with deceptive ease over 1000m in 1:5.8, emerging from the fog in good style.
Maiden steeplechaser Te Akau Battle covered the last 1200m of long striding work in 1:16.8. The Message was restrained over 1200 in 1:24.8.
Spring Rain was among a few well-performed gallopers allowed use of an easy course proper, 26m out. She finished her task effortlessly.
Ete Pins ran 600m impressively, leaving the impression that she could be in for a good season. Butterscotch continued her preparation with a steady 600.
Dundeal, Integrate and Tudor Bay completed their work in good style.
On a firm sand, Esprit Du Nord and Henry Tudor covered 1200m in 1:18.6. Te Akau Five took 1:20.5.
Never Blue suggested prospects at Ellerslie with a solid 1200m on a heavy No 2 grass, 5m out, at Takanini. She kept up a strong, even clip to record 1:20.4, the 600 in 39.7.
Mr McGerkle and Stylish Prospect finished 1000m pleasingly in 1:6.5, the 600 in 39.3. The Mandrake worked well for a maiden over 1000m in 1:5.8, the 600 in 40.4.
Kate Lorimer looked to be training on well when running 1000m in 1:7.4, the 600 in 39.9.
Ellerslie entrant The Flynt and stablemate Honour Guard were the only horses who could be timed in fog at Cambridge. They went 1000m on the inside of a soft No 2 grass in 1:3.5, and were going strongly at the finish.
In preparation for hurdles at Ellerslie, Nessum Dorma finished off two rounds of pacework on the sand at Avondale with 600m in 41.7
Lord Dancer and Sir Albert were full of running after 800m on a soft No 1 grass in 51.2, the 600 in 37.2. Castlecoole shaded Somerset Beau at the end of 800 in 51.1, the 600 in 37.1.
Mick Bailey and True Son pleased with 800m in 54.9, the 600 in 39.6. Where Am I ran 600 strongly in 39.6.
Tsar Omar worked stylishly over 1000m on an easy No 1 grass at Te Awamutu in 1:3.4, the 600 in 37.5. Ahi Pani and Midnight Promise also did well to cut out 800 in 52.5.
On a good sand, Nouvelle ran 1000m in 1:8.8, the 600 in 40.9. Winged Foot and Hill Of Grace dashed over 600 in 38.9 and were followed in similar time by Party Queen.
Country Fair and Country Squire took time honours on a heavy No 2 grass at Te Rapa.
Country Fair took 1:17.1 for 1200m, the 600 in 39.8. Country Squire took 1:17.1 and 39.2. Annalee cruised over 600 in 39.4.
Nudge hit out well on a soft No 2 grass at Te Aroha, taking 1:7 for 1000m and 39.8 from the 600.
Annotate, looking for better footing, ran an easy 1600m in 1:51.4, the 600 in 42.4.
