WELLINGTON - The public will be able to make written submissions to the ministerial task forces which will examine the funding, administration and development of New Zealand racing.
Each of the three task forces, announced recently by Racing Minister Annette King, will report on all three subjects - which represents a change from the original concept - but the final outcome will be a single report.
After each task force has made its recommendations, the three chairmen will meet and produce a final report, which will then be presented to Mrs King.
She expects the final report to be submitted by the end of August.
The members of the task forces were announced yesterday with Palmerston North QC Mike Behrens chairing the central districts' group.
Retired judge Ken Mason will chair the northern group and former Speaker Sir Kerry Burke will chair the South Island task force.
The central districts' members also include Harness Racing New Zealand executive member Gary Allen, Wellington Racing Club chief executive Mary-Anne Edwards, Manawatu Racing Club manager David Jewell and Taranaki Racing Club manager Carey Hobbs.
Wellington businessman and owner Tom Jamison will be the New Zealand Racing Industry Board representative on the central districts task force and the TAB will be represented by senior executive Stu Cashen.
The task force members are:-
Northern: Brian Meale, Peter Grieve, Charlie Hunter, Tony Enting, Jim Watters, Derek Vane, Dick Stevenson, Ron Dent, Thayne Green, David Wilks and Mason.
