Lyell Creek's curse with draws in the US continued on Saturday when he finished sixth in the $100,000 Nat Ray Elimination at the Meadowlands in New Jersey.
The New Zealand champion was forced to work hard three wide for the first 800m before sitting parked and was third at the 100m point before being swamped to finish a close-up sixth.
The race was won by favourite Magician, rated the best trotter in the US.
While the sixth was the worst finishing position for Lyell Creek in two years, driver Anthony Butt was far from disappointed as his effort still qualified him for the $US500,000 Nat Ray Final on August 4.
"I just hope we eventually get a good draw up here. It is getting hard to believe we can cop so many bad draws,"said Butt.
New Zealand's Tony Herlihy has finished sixth in the world driving championships in Scaninavia.
Herlihy led the series early but drew few winning chances in the second half and finished on 125 points, 43 behind winner Jody Jamieson of Canada.
Enrico Bellei of Italy was second and Sweden's Orjan Kihlstrom third.
Sam Noble of the United States was fourth and Australia's Brian Hancock eighth.
