Lucanero showed his fitness for tomorrow's open-class 1600m at Ellerslie when galloping at Matamata yesterday.
On a firm sand, Lucanero hit out well to record 1:17.8 for 1200m and 38.2 from the 600. Paymaster, who races at Paeroa on Sunday, also went 1200 smartly, taking 1:18, the 1000 with Promise Keeper in 1:3 and the 600 in 37.
Starvacious galloped 1200m with South Of Dixie in 1:19.8, the 1000 in 1:5 and 600 in 38. Fella Me Lad covered an easy 1000 in 1:6.4, the 600 in 38.
Roy's Dream was allowed an easy 1200m in 1:23, the 600 in 38.8. Coup De Coeur took 1:24.8 for 1200, the 600 in 39.6.
On a firm all-weather track, Isle Floorem and Dunal Magic kept on terms over 1600m, the 1200 in 1:16.8 and 600 in 37.8. Prefer To Race impressed while running 1200 in 1:18.8, the 1000 in 1:4.5 and 600 in 37.6.
Never Blue and The Mandrake went attractively in training at Takanini, where fog prevented the timing of about 25 other Ellerslie acceptors.
Never Blue ran 1000m in 1:5.1, the last 400 in 24.2. The Mandrake recorded 1:5.2 for 1000, the 600 in 38.9.
Playful Fingers looked to have trained on well when finishing a steady gallop in the fog.
At Avondale, Balvenie worked a good deal better than on Tuesday when twice running 600m on a firm No 1 grass with Castlecoole. They took 43.6 the first time, then 43.5.
Interlaced did no more than he had to when covering 1000m in 1:6.9, the 600 in 36.5. Lemon Eyes cruised over 1000 in 1:7.5, the 600 in 38.9.
Orl Lords showed improvement when sprinting 1000m in 1:6.6, the 600 under a hold in 37.4. Hula Jet scampered the last 600 of her work in 35.5.
Mick Bailey was travelling well at the end of 800m in 52.4, the 600 in 36. Ronald John strode over 1200 in 1:20, the 600 in 36.8.
Majoubah and Paddy McGinty worked freely at Te Aroha in preparation for Paeroa. On a firm plough they went 1600m in 1:52.
She's Supreme looked in excellent order when galloping 1400m in 1:18.7. Giacobazzi, a favoured runner at Ellerslie, breezed down the straight but was not timed.
Other tracks were fogged out.
