It might have started as a joke but Mark Jones had the last laugh last night.
The outstanding reinsman achieved the final aim of his incredible junior driving career with his 100th win of the season at Addington.
Jones reined two winners to bring up the ton, the milestone coming with Premium Reserve in the seventh.
Already this season he has won the National Junior Champs and smashed David Butcher's junior record of 60 wins in a season. When he reached that mark four months ago he set the goal of 100 wins, but admitted last night he was not overly serious.
"With the number of meetings dropping off in winter I really didn't think I would get there, but you can't die wondering," said Jones.
While quick to thank his boss Cran Dalgety, he was grateful to trainers he has not regularly driven for who had engaged him because they knew he was chasing the record.
