A young trainer's racing dream came true at Trentham while the hot pot's failure was a nightmare for his army of supporters.
Byerley Park horseman Steven Cole was in tears after Dukedom had upstaged his rivals in the group one Woodridge Homes Levin Classic and backers of the beaten favourite Xtravagant must also have felt like crying.
"It's amazing, a whole lot of emotions," Cole said.
"It's my first Group One winner and a huge thrill. It's an amazing feeling and I didn't think he was going to pick them up, but he's a very, very good horse."
Cole, who races the son of Bachelor Duke with his father David, said he was over the moon to have made his mark at the elite level after such a short time.
