You might have to wait until the last race to be aroused at Te Awamutu today.
Class filly Arousing (No1, R10) cost punters when beaten favourite at Tauranga last start, but she looks well placed to atone this afternoon.
Arousing is well above average, the Tauranga run was her first for a month and only her second start back from a reasonable break. The wide draw late in the day should be an advantage, particularly as the Te Awamutu track suits swoopers. Prized Gem (No2) is a danger and locally-trained Judette (No3) could be the trifecta value runner.
It is a mystery what happened to Tsar Omar (No3, R2) at Tauranga last start. Maybe he was feeling the effects of a tough run when he turned in a superlative performance under 58kg to win at Ellerslie a week earlier. He has had two weeks between runs this time and that may suit him better. He is certainly better than he showed last time. Kohinoor (No4) is close to a win and Michael Collins (No5) is the improver.
The finish Skybaby (No2, R3) produced for third at Tauranga is enough to send her out favourite on her home track today. She was really flying late and if she can wind up earlier on the straight between the 800m and the home turn, she might have too much finishing punch for this lot. The small field will help.
The babies race is tricky, but the betting might be even and some value could exist. First-upper Headliner (No2, R4) might prove difficult to beat. She won first-up at Tauranga in February and shows a fair bit of ability.
Give Arduous (No1, R6) another chance to show what she is worth. After suffering from a stone bruise, she is fitter for this race than recent races and will probably benefit from wearing blinkers for the first time. Nothing Lika Tango (No3) is pretty classy and getting close to full fitness.
The Te Awamutu Cup is an almost impossible race, with just about every runner having some chance to win. Why not then go for the very in-form horse Oliverdance (No12, R7), even though this is his first start in open company. He gets to the finish line well and should be suited by the course. Difficult to sort out one other runner but His Destiny (No5) is close to his best.
Boschendal (No2, R8) is dropping back in class and looks suited and the Hakkinen (No3, R9) and Maserati (No1) quinella has to be the omen bet of the day.
