LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) The IOC says Sri Lanka has agreed to revise its sports legislation to comply with Olympic rules.
IOC officials met with a Sri Lankan delegation on Wednesday to discuss long-standing concerns over the law governing sports in the South Asian country since 1973.
The International Olympic Committee says the talks were designed "to find a common understanding and establish the necessary conditions" for Sri Lankan sports bodies to comply with international requirements.
Under the agreement, the sports law will be revised within nine months and government regulations revised within six months to make them compatible with Olympic standards.
Sri Lanka's national Olympic committee must adopt a new constitution that will serve as a basis for internal elections. Current office-holders will remain in place until then.
