FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) Thomas Bach has resigned as head of Germany's national sports body to assume his new role as president of the International Olympic Committee.
The German Olympic Sports Confederation, or DOSB, announced Bach's official resignation on Monday, with Hans-Peter Kraemer taking over on an interim basis.
Kraemer will serve out the remainder of Bach's term until Dec. 2014 unless early elections are called for December this year. The DOSB's general assembly takes place on Dec. 7.
Bach was elected IOC president last week in Buenos Aires, Argentina, succeeding Jacques Rogge.
Bach informed the DOSB that he is also resigning as president of the Ghorfa Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Some Jewish groups claimed the group is anti-Israeli.
