LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) The IOC has given Egypt one year to bring its sports legislation into line with Olympic standards.
The IOC met with Egyptian sports and Olympic officials in Lausanne to review the situation in the country, which has been embroiled in unrest since the ouster of President Mohammed Morsi in July.
The International Olympic Committee says the sports law in force in Egypt since 1975 "needs to be updated and revised to make it fully compatible with the basic standards of the Olympic movement."
Under the accord, new draft legislation should be completed within six months. The whole process, including adoption of the new law, should be done within a year.
The IOC says, in the meantime, the Egyptian government "will not interfere in any manner whatsoever" with sports federations and clubs.
