MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) Ian Davies, who played on two Australian Olympic teams and in U.S. college basketball at Graceland University in Iowa, has died aged 57.
Basketball Australia said in a statement Friday that Davies died suddenly Thursday at his home in Hobart, Tasmania. No other details were disclosed.
Davies, a forward, represented Australia at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics and the 1982 and 1986 world championships.
A member of the Sydney Kings' inaugural National Basketball League team in 1988, Davies played on several other NBL teams, including Launceston's championship side in 1981.
Basketball Australia chief executive Kristina Keneally says "beyond his prolific presence on the international stage ... Ian will be remembered fondly among the basketball community for his warm personality and character."
