Axed Silver Fern Anna Rowberry says she has no intention of calling it quits and is determined to win back her place in the national side.
Rowberry and Force defender Sheryl Scanlan were the two high-profile casualties in the Silver Ferns team named to play Australia yesterday.
While Scanlan was deemed not fit enough, Rowberry's dumping was the result of her needing more time to recover from the knee surgery she had last year after damaging her ligaments in the final test against Australia in July.
"Maybe my expectations were a bit high thinking I could get back this soon," Rowberry said.
"It has been only 10 months and probably I need more time on court to get my confidence up and get back to the shape I was before doing it."
It is not the first time Rowberry has got the chop.
After making her debut in the national side in 1994 she was cut in 2000.
It took her around two years to win her spot back.
But such is New Zealand's depth in the midcourt that every player bar Lesley Rumball and newcomer Laura Langman have been dropped at some point.
Rowberry said she would make herself for the national provincial championships with the hope of being selected for the return test against Australia in October.
"It is challenge and the longer you are out of the team the more opportunity you give someone else."
