There should be no surprises where Australia will attack to expose the Silver Ferns' vulnerability when the three-test series begins on Thursday night.
Whoever starts alongside Irene van Dyk, whether Maria Tutaia or Tania Dalton, can expect to be asked to put up some pressure shots.
"I've seen Tania play goal shoot; I've never seen her launch herself at goal attack so I don't know what she offers there," Australian coach Norma Plummer said.
"Maria is a lovely looking athlete but Julie Prendergast is the same height, athletic and has the speed to match anything. Mo'onia Gerrard... did a very good job on her last time, so I think we've got some pretty good match-ups there."
The short-term pressure point for the Silver Ferns is threatening to become a long-term pain.
Ruth Aitken and her co-selectors identified Paula Griffin as an up-and-coming shooter and have included her in the squad. Van Dyk has been principal in New Zealand's period of dominance over Australia, and no shooters are close to achieving her statistics.
Not including finals day at the national champs, the shooting stats indicated Donna Loffhagen was next best. She remains unavailable for national selection.
While van Dyk was at 95 per cent, Tutaia recorded 82 per cent and Dalton 79 per cent. In the next tier, Paula Griffin shot 77 per cent. New Zealand A shooters Daneka Wipiiti and Hayley Stockman only just shot above 70 per cent and Tanya Lund barely shot more than 60 per cent. Canterbury's Jade Topia was the best of the A bunch with 77 per cent.
