KEY POINTS:
Silver Fern netballer Temepara George has withdrawn from the Silver Ferns trials and upcoming series against Jamaica and Australia, citing personal reasons.
Netball New Zealand confirmed George's withdrawal today.
George's unavailability was a great loss to the team, coach Ruth Aitken said.
"Temepara is an outstanding athlete and team member and she will be greatly missed. However, it's important that we respect her decision."
Aiken said George's absence opened up an opportunity for mid-court players vying for position at this weekend's trials.
George said she felt unable to commit the time necessary to represent New Zealand at this stage, for personal reasons.
"I haven't retired from netball, I am simply taking time out and will reassess my future options in due course and I wish the Silver Ferns every success in the upcoming Fisher & Paykel Series," she said.
The team to play against Jamaica and Australia will be announced on Monday.
