The Silver Ferns have had a successful first hit-out in their netball tour of Jamaica, defeating a local club side in Kingston today (NZT).
The score of the practice match was not disclosed but coach Ruth Aitken said she was satisfied with her squad's performance two days after their arrival in the Caribbean.
Aitken gave all 14 of her players court time, splitting the tour party into two teams.
"We had two lots of seven, one for the first half and one for the second, and we treated it like two games in itself," she said.
"We had a really good hit-out and I was happy with the performance on the whole."
Aitken said temperatures were above 30C for the evening match.
"It was certainly a lot hotter than we're used to but the girls adjusted pretty well," she said.
The Silver Ferns have another similar practice match tomorrow, before the tri-series with Jamaica and Barbados begins at the weekend.
The New Zealanders' first match of the tournament is against Jamaica on Monday morning (NZT).
The practice matches and the tri-series are being held at the National Arena, the same venue where the Silver Ferns won the world championship two years ago.
While the stadium held fond memories for Aitken and the players who were part of that campaign, she said it was important not to dwell on the past.
"It was certainly a special moment when we arrived," she said. "But it's really important that we put that behind us and move forward."
