Southern Sting netball coach Robyn Broughton has a quiet air of satisfaction about her that should have her National Bank Cup rivals worried.
Broughton pronounced herself happy with the team's performance after four big wins in the pre-season tournament at Stadium Southland over the weekend.
They beat the Otago men's team 73-45 and the Wellington Shakers 62-48 on Saturday and then thumped the Otago Rebels 77-29 yesterday, before beating the Shakers 67-36.
"I thought our defence improved with every game and I'm really happy with that," Broughton said.
"Our combinations are getting together now and there was some lovely play, some lovely interceptions."
Sting were missing captain Lesley Nicol for the weekend. She was competing in a multi-sport event in Central Otago, but stand-in skipper Donna Loffhagen was in excellent form in the shooting circle.
Broughton was also pleased with the work of Adine Harper at centre, but it was hard to fault any of the combinations she used over the weekend.
The Shakers, with former Sting players Megan Hutton and Kylie Young in the defence circle, provided Sting's strongest opposition, while the Rebels were missing Silver Fern Anna Scarlett.
Sting's next assignment is a tough three-day, six-game series in Sydney, beginning April 2.
