New Zealand coach Ruth Aitken admits that Adine Harper could be a "fantastic" goal attack, but the Southern Sting player will not be tried there during this weekend's whistlestop trip to Adelaide.
The 16-member squad will play eight games in three days against the Thunderbirds, fellow Commonwealth Bank Trophy national league contenders Canberra Darters and Perth Orioles, plus the South Australian under-19 team.
For the Silver Ferns, the tournament is part of the build-up for the three-match test home series against Australia in June. The Silver Ferns return to Australia in November for another three tests in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne.
Harper is the Sting's wing attack or centre in the national league. Aitken has toyed with using her as a back-up shooter. Now it seems that will not happen.
"I do think it is very hard that she is not playing there in a specialist position [for Sting] and that's quite understandable why she is not."
