The Flames have sent an early season warning to other National Bank Cup netball teams.
They opened the competition with a 53-27 downing of the Rebels in Dunedin last night.
Coach Margaret Foster says she is delighted with the start, although, as with most early matches, it was quite scrappy.
Foster says they have plenty to work on in preparation for next week and the team suffered a blow with a serious achilles injury to Belinda Charteris.
Silver Ferns defender Vilimaina Davu led the way for the Flames with a player of the match performance.
