New Zealand racing driver Matt Halliday is returning to what he describes as his favourite motor racing circuit when he lines up for a one-off appearance in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Monaco on Monday as a support race for the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix.
Halliday is racing for the same MRS Team he campaigned last year's Porsche Supercup championship with and this year's Dubai 24 Hour sports car race. The team has entered Halliday in a 2010 specification Porsche 911 GT3, sponsored by wine company Bertaud Belieu and the Giltrap Group.
Halliday has had solid results from his three previous visits to Monaco. In 2003, he finished second overall in the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup race followed with a sixth and eighth in 2009 and 2010 in Porsche Supercup races.
"I'm really excited to be heading back to Monaco, even if we had to miss the start of the season because I don't mind throwing myself into the lions' den for the chance to race there," said Halliday.
"We have a great new sponsor on board in Bertaud Belieu, so we look forward to making it happen for them and giving it 100 per cent."
Halliday and his team are donating a carbon ceramic brake disc signed by all Porsche Supercup drivers racing at Monaco in support of Kiwi V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards, who was diagnosed with cancer late last year.
