KEY POINTS:
THOUSAND OAKS, California - Tiger Woods surrendered his hold on the Target World Challenge midway through yesterday's third round at a wet Sherwood Country Club.
A stroke clear at the start of the day, Woods rattled up three birdies and a bogey in the first nine holes but was caught atop the leaderboard by US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy.
Australian Ogilvy, tied for third place overnight, drew level with Woods at 10-under par with four birdies in the first seven holes before reaching the turn in four-under 32.
Swede Henrik Stenson was alone in third place at nine under, also after nine holes, with American Chris DiMarco a further two strokes back in fourth.
Twice champion Woods, hunting his 11th title of the year worldwide, made a fast start in steady rain, doubling his overnight lead with birdies on the first two holes.
He struck a superb approach to within six feet of the flag at the par-four first and picked up his second shot after reaching the green in two at the par-five second.
Playing partner Stenson also birdied the opening par-five before trimming Woods' lead to one by spectacularly holing out from a greenside bunker at the par-three third.
Ogilvy joined Woods at the top of the leaderboard after his four-birdie run before the world number one slipped back with a bogey at the par-four seventh, where he failed to reach the green in two.
The Australian's outright lead was short-lived, though.
Woods, champion here in 2001 and 2004, hit his tee shot to 3.04m at the par-three eighth and rolled in the putt for his third birdie of the day.
He then parred the ninth to reach the turn at 10 under overall, and tied for the lead with Ogilvy.
Britain's Luke Donald, champion at Sherwood Country Club last year, struggled for the third day in a row.
Second last in the 16-man field overnight following scores of 76 and 74, the Englishman was three over for the round with three holes to play.
